Famed Rope Warrior Saved Drowning Teen with Jump Rope
The man famously known as The Rope Warrior saved drowning teen with jump rope and the ingenuity of a superhero. David Fisher recognized worldwide as The Rope Warrior, jumped into lifesaving mode recently when a young man needed to be saved from dying in an ice pond.
Fisher’s son Felix had heard a commotion outside their home directing them to see the neighbor’s dog chasing some geese. This led the pup to fall through the frozen ice pond and its young owner jumping in to save his fur baby. At this point, the teen was in trouble of freezing and drowning.
Felix dialed 911 as he grabbed a pool noodle and a broom. While his son jumped into action, so did Fisher as he instinctively opened his jump rope bag to take out his 16-foot double-dutch ropes. Both men ran across the street as they viewed the teen treading water and calling out, “I’m going to drown.”
Fisher explains:
I could hear the ice cracking underneath my feet. But I kept my eyes on him, spread my feet, and lowered my center of gravity. I was very focused on narrowing the space between us so that I could get him to the other end of the rope. I was not going to let him drown.
